Like many boaters, my wife and I were drawn to the beauty of the extraordinary 1000 Islands in the late 80’s and vowed to return in our retirement years.  Now fulltime residents since 2008, we fondly refer to the Brockville/Gananoque region as the “Retirement and Recreation Capital of Eastern Ontario”.

Both sides of the boarder offer fabulous road trips to communities steeped in history, and charm. Numerous museums, fine dining, live theatre, affordable accommodation and great shopping abound.  And for those inevitable realities of life, the Brockville and Kingston’s highly proclaimed KGH hospital are literally minutes away by ambulance.

Its an area perfectly located for those who are prepared to give up the big city, traffic jams and congestion in favour of a more relaxed lifestyle.  It’s like living full time in a holiday destination atmosphere.

When I am not working, you’ll see me pedaling my bicycle along the famous 1000 Island Parkway Trail, just off of which I reside, near Rockport.
